Die Position

  • Act as a key account manager for bi- and multilateral international cooperation institutions and development banks such as GIZ, AFD, UNDP, EIB, EBRD, World Bank;
  • Network with key clients and partners and coordinate on the early identification of opportunities;
  • Help develop project pipelines on a broad range of sustainability topics;
  • Prioritise expressions of interest and proposals and coordinate with program leads on making go / no-go decisions;
  • Supervise bids and take over the management and negotiation of large, strategically important proposals;
  • Ensure smooth handovers of successful project acquisitions to project managers, potentially direct the backstopping for selected large projects;
  • Drive personnel development, capacity planning and further professionalization of our 15-head strong Business Development team.
  • Manage business development staff working on international proposals, coordinate resource planning and contribute to personnel development through coaching, feedback and hires;
  • Steer the knowledge management on proposals and report on business development strategy and results to the management board.

Die Anforderungen

  • At least 10 years of general professional experience in with at least 5 years of specific experience in international project acquisition (leading proposals, setting up winning teams and partnerships, conducting negotiations with clients, experts and partners), preferably in the fields of climate, energy or sustainability.
  • Prior experience with project acquisition from GIZ and international development banks. Experience with EU international cooperation DGs (DG INTPA, DG NEAR), with the UN and with further international donors, as well as with philanthropy will be considered strong additional assets.
  • Experience in implementing projects, either as an expert or in backstopping, experience in managing client relations and experience in managing personnel will be considered strong assets.
  • If possible, prior experience with leading teams; in any case strong communication and team player skills, together with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Coordination, planning and organisation skills.
  • Educational background: University Degree, preferably Master’s level in a relevant field of expertise.
  • Fluency in English and German, further languages (especially French, Spanish or Portuguese) are an asset.
